Industrial arts

The Industrial Arts Department of Bellingen High School has a proud tradition of excellence in both the senior and junior sections of the school. There are two main reasons for this the staff and the facilities:

The staff

The staff who teach the various subjects. All of our teachers are highly experienced in their fields which include:

  • Technology
  • Industrial Technology - Wood and, or Metal
  • Graphics Technology
  • Engineering Studies
  • Senior Industrial Technology - Wood and,or Metal.

Our students' achievements in both the School Certificate and the Higher School Certificate are recognised state wide and many students have gone on to complete TAFE and University courses with distinction.

The facilities

The other reason for our tradition of excellence is the Industrial Arts facility itself. Our workshops are set up and maintained with some of the latest machines and equipment available which enable our students to produce projects that most other schools could not even contemplate making. This is very obvious around HSC marking time when our Industrial Technology projects are proudly displayed by the students who designed and constructed them.

Home economics

We offer these junior courses:

Technology mandatory

A compulsory rotation of technology subjects during Years 7 and 8. Students do at least one term in:

  • food technology
  • textiles
  • woodwork
  • metal work.

Food technology

Over the 2 year course, students complete a range of topics including:

  • nutrition
  • special occasions
  • food for special needs.

The skills acquired in Mandatory Technology are built upon and the course gives students practical skills for living.
