The HSIE (Human Society & Its Environment) key learning area focuses on studying human activity and the world in which we operate. The HSIE faculty houses a range of "Humanities" subjects which begin at the Junior School level (ie. Years 7 - 10) with the essential, foundational subjects of :
- H.S.I.E. (which is a creative mixture of Geography & History)
- Commerce / Personal Finance and Legal Studies
These building block courses are then expanded in the Senior School (ie. Years 11 & 12) by offering students a range of interesting elective subjects. Senior Electives |

Excursions |
One of the reasons why students enjoy HSIE subjects at BHS is that excursions are an integral part of its content matter . Excursions range from short, one period excursions within the local area to longer term adventures much further afield. |
The biggest excursion in the HSIE Faculty is the annual Year 11 HSIE Trip to Sydney. THis is a week long excursion where students are exposed to a variety of historical, cultural and geographical learning experiences which link directly to the HSIE preliminary & HSC syllabus. |
